Biodegradable packaging will help change the phenomenon of no market

The beverage and food packaging materials industry is one of the most obvious energy and resource waste industries. The annual production demand for packaging materials reaches 67 million tons, not to mention energy resources. Most of the packaging materials pose a serious threat to the ecological environment. In order to better protect the environment, degradable plastics came into being. Because of issues such as corporate interests, the popularity of degradable plastics has not been smooth. China's degradable plastics are still in the stage of publicity and promotion, and the degree of marketization is not high.

Biodegradable plastics have profit but no market
Degradable plastics refer to plastics that add a certain amount of additives (such as starch, modified starch or other cellulose, photosensitizers, biodegradation agents, etc.) during the production process, which have reduced stability and are more easily degraded in the natural environment. The market price of degradable plastics is 2-3 times that of ordinary plastic products. If it is successfully sold, the profit level is 10%, while the profit level of ordinary plastics is 1% -3%.

Despite the higher profit level, the current sales resistance of degradable plastics is greater. The first is the higher cost, the larger capital occupancy, and the poor acceptance of downstream companies. The second is that degradable plastics have a certain shelf life. The sales are not good, and the risk of loss of the company is greater.

At present, degradable plastics are still in the stage of publicity and promotion, and the degree of marketization is not high. In industries mandated by the state, such as disposable plastics such as disposable cups, lunch boxes, knives and forks in the catering industry, the proportion of degradable plastics is relatively high, while the use of degradable plastics is low in industry and agriculture .

Various factors promote the development of degradable plastic packaging
From a long-term perspective, domestic environmental awareness has increased, and the use of degradable plastics has expanded; the demand for environmentally friendly materials has increased abroad, and the export of degradable plastics has increased; the domestic production process of degradable plastics has matured, and the cost has gradually been reduced to acceptable downstream range. With the maturity of various conditions, degradable plastics still have a broad development prospect.

It is reported that developed countries and regions such as Europe, the United States, and Japan have successively formulated and promulgated relevant regulations to restrict the use of non-degradable plastics through measures such as local bans, restrictions, mandatory collection, and collection of pollution taxes, and vigorously develop new biodegradable materials to Protect the environment and protect the soil. Among them, France issued a policy in 2005: all disposable plastic bags must be biodegradable after 2010. Now Cameroon has joined this camp, showing that non-environmentally friendly packaging materials will continue to hit the wall in the future development market. Correspondingly, environmentally friendly packaging materials will usher in a golden period of development. According to industry estimates, the global packaging market's demand for degradable plastics will reach 9.45 million tons in 2023, with an average annual compound growth rate of up to 33%. The market for biodegradable plastic packaging is huge, and the demand for food packaging accounts for more than 70% of the market for biodegradable plastic packaging. The significance is self-evident.
