Poly(propylene terephthalate) is a new type of polyester material developed in the mid-1990s. It is an important monomer for the production of polyester fiber PTT, biodegradable polyester plastic, polyester film, and polyurethane. Its key raw material, 1,3-propanediol (PDO) synthesis technology, has become a hot spot in the world's major multinational companies.
In 1998, Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, took the lead in the domestic exploration of ethylene oxide carbonylation synthesis of 1,3-propanediol. After several years of continuous research, a new process route for the synthesis of methyl 3-hydroxypropionate intermediates from the hydrogen esterification reaction of ethylene oxide and the further synthesis of PDO has been developed. The relevant catalyst patent applications have been authorized. The current research on this project has reached the international advanced level.
The results of this study have attracted the interest of large companies such as PetroChina. They have reached preliminary cooperation intentions a few days ago and are expected to expedite the development of the project and achieve breakthroughs. Some foreign related companies also showed concern for the project, and cooperation issues are being further discussed.
