Bicycle gloves with steering lights Zackees

Headlights and taillights are essential for making a bike visible at night, but they don’t communicate the rider’s intended direction. To solve this problem, some innovators have created backpacks that display directional information to the front. However, former Google software engineer Zach Vorhies took a different approach by integrating the feature directly into gloves. These gloves feature an LED array on the back of each hand, powered by a built-in coin cell battery. The LEDs can show clear directional arrows, and activation is simple—just touch the metal contact on your thumb and index finger. Once connected, the light stays on as long as your fingers remain in contact. Users describe it as "tracing the light," creating a visual signal that others can easily see from behind. All electronic components are encased in waterproof polymer material, making the gloves easy to clean. If the contact points get accidentally triggered during cleaning or storage, the LEDs will automatically shut off after a short period. A flashing pattern that becomes faster and dimmer indicates it's time to replace the battery. Most users find that changing the battery every 3 to 6 months is sufficient, depending on how often the LEDs are used. While traditional hand signals are visible to drivers behind you, there are situations where it’s better for oncoming traffic to see the gesture. Vorhies suggests keeping the handlebar within reach, but the user can also raise their hand directly to signal the direction. This makes the gloves not only functional but also intuitive and safe for everyday use. The design is both practical and stylish, blending technology with everyday cycling needs. Whether you're riding through busy city streets or quiet trails, these smart gloves offer a new way to communicate your intentions clearly and safely.
