Monochrome Digital Xerox Océ Press Big Two

To say that the American company Xerox is the world's premier photocopier manufacturer, most people know and will not disagree, but if they talk about their achievements in digital presses, it is probably only the printing industry. Got it. When it comes to Xerox monochrome digital presses, even fewer people know about it. The reason for this is that Xerox’s reputation in the photocopier area is too great for people to overlook their development in other fields. Another reason, presumably, is that the originator of digital printing is Israel’s Indigo, and Indigo’s The first to introduce color digital printers, so people pay more attention to digital printing in the field of color digital printing. In fact, the development and production of monochrome digital presses is also an important aspect of digital printing, and Xerox Corporation is one of the best.

Due to the long history of the development and production of photocopiers, Xerox's digital printing systems generally have traces of copiers. In terms of printing methods, Xerox uses the traditional "Carson X-ray electrostatic copying technology." The basic principle (taking Xerox4850 as an example) is shown in Figure 1. Xerox's products are relatively mature and have evolved into a series of products. At present, Xerox monochrome digital printing products sold in China are mainly DC (documentCentre) series, DP (DocuPrint) series, and 5000 series. Its main technical indicators are shown in Table 1.

In the field of monochromatic digital printing, there is also a manufacturer that can compete with Xerox. This is the Océ company in the Netherlands. Océ's printing method is very different from the printing method of Xerox products. Most of Océ's products use offset printing technology, as shown in Figure 2. The main products sold by Océ in China are its 3000 series and series (see Table 2).

Comparing the two products, it is not difficult to find that in terms of low printing speed (40 to 80 sheets/minute), the two companies' products have no significant differences in terms of price, performance, and even average cost of consumption. From the actual application situation, due to the difference in machine structure and printing method, Océ's products are more durable and easier to operate. However, from the perspective of maintenance, maintenance of Océ products is relatively time-consuming. This grade of machine, from the speed, size, noise and other considerations, more suitable for office use.

The medium and high printing speed (more than 90 printing/minutes) equipment is more suitable for the printing room, fast printing shop, etc., because the printing speed is faster. In this equipment, Xerox products focus on the completion of the work, so Xerox equipment in the machine function is more perfect. For example, Xerox DP4635, DP180, DP4850, etc., are printed using ordinary xerographic paper, and all have online binding device, which can be completed with the finished product collation page binding. When the water content of the paper, the grammage, and the disinfecting treatment of the machine itself are all compatible with the working conditions of the machine, such equipment is indeed very convenient to use. However, if there is a problem with any of these three important links, it is necessary to stop the failure.

In contrast, Océ's products focus more on maintaining the continuity of the work. Océ's equipment, which has a printing speed of 90 pages per minute (A4) or more, uses continuous paper feeding. The main purpose of this design is to prevent the machine from jamming at high speeds. However, it is precisely because of the continuous paper supply method that Océ's products cannot be bound online like Xerox's equipment, and only the binding work can be transferred to the next process.

From the perspective of the overall product line, Xerox’s products are more comprehensive; while Océ’s products, especially high-speed products, have more advantages in terms of durability and stability.
