Nestled on the outskirts of Helsinki, in the quaint town of Kauniainen, lies the headquarters of Secto Design. This office building holds immense significance for the journey and growth of our company. It was here, in 1995, that Tuula Jusélius, the visionary founder, and Seppo Koho, the architect behind all Secto Design lamps, first crossed paths. Originally, this building served as Jusélius’ private family home, which underwent a significant transformation over the years to evolve into the unique, fully functional office and showroom it is today. From the exterior, one might never guess that this serene house serves as the hub of an internationally acclaimed company. It still retains its charm as a family home, nestled amidst nature with lush woodland areas surrounding it. Employees have the luxury of taking breaks in the garden or strolling along the numerous small trails just outside. Even the squirrels and birds seem to appreciate the tranquility, often sharing the back terrace with the team.Every room features lamps from the Secto Design collection, perfectly suited to each space.
As you step inside, the rhythmic arrangement of Kuulto ceiling lamps greets you against the backdrop of beautifully crafted wooden knot-free panels. The hallway continues the theme with linen-textured paneling and matching cupboards, creating a cohesive aesthetic. From here, you can catch a glimpse of the extensive display of the entire Secto Design collection. Our office isn’t just a workspace; it doubles as the company’s showroom in Finland (by appointment only). The lower level presents the entire collection, showcasing the timeless designs working in perfect harmony. Each room is thoughtfully equipped with selected models to meet specific lighting needs. The workstations and kitchen island are illuminated by Owalo pendants, whose elongated shapes and efficient lighting blend seamlessly with the space.The elongated Owalo pendant lamps provide ample lighting for the workstations.
In the meeting room, a classic Alvar Aalto table is paired with three Atto pendant lamps arranged in a straight line above it. These pendants not only offer practical lighting but also enhance the ambiance during lengthy discussions. The comfortable wood chairs, designed by Norwegian Hans Brattrud in the 1950s, complement the space beautifully.The Atto pendants and other design classics create a welcoming atmosphere in the meeting room.
During colder months, the office transforms into a cozy retreat with sofas encircling the fireplace on the upper landing. The solid wooden conference table nearby serves as a nod to the company’s earlier furniture collection before focusing solely on lighting. In this shared space, only lamps from the original Secto line—pendants, wall, and floor lamps—are used.The Kontro pendants light the stairs leading to the elegant upper hall with its sofas and fireplace.
High wooden ceilings contribute to the airy feel of the upper level, exuding a sense of grandeur. Above the staircase, a cluster of Kontro pendant lamps ensures safe and practical lighting. Secto Design’s commitment to ecological principles shines through in the office’s design choices. Natural materials dominate the spaces, with lamps crafted from certified local birch providing a warm, uplifting glow that harmonizes beautifully with the natural light streaming through the large windows.Wall lamps and pendants from the Secto line illuminate the upper common space.
