Packaging Material for Filling Handbags – The Packaging Doctor

Retail packaging comes in many forms, and one of the most effective is large display stands designed for point-of-sale (POS) environments. These are often aligned with the product's branding to grab customers' attention. Other common types include carrier bags used for store advertising and shelf-ready packs that can be moved directly from pallets to stores with minimal handling, increasing efficiency. But what about smaller retailers or those looking for that extra detail that makes a product stand out?

In-store displays are essential for high street and designer retailers, and competition is fierce. To capture attention, these displays need to be eye-catching, colorful, and easy to browse — all of which encourage customers to make a purchase. Today’s question comes from a leather goods retailer who is keen to understand how to plan the packaging process from manufacturing to display.

Dear Doctor,

I design and sell a bespoke range of handbags and suitcases, and after four years of online sales, I’m thrilled to have signed a contract with a major department store.

My main concern is that I want my handbags to look attractive on display. I’d like them to appear “plump” so that customers get a realistic idea of how they’ll look once filled with personal items.

What would you recommend to plump up the bags without stretching or damaging the material?

Thanks, Thomas.

Hi Thomas,

Thank you for reaching out. First of all, congratulations on your success! It's great to hear about your new partnership with a big department store. I have a perfect solution for you — one that’s commonly used by our customers here at Kite.

I recommend our Mini Air Machine, an innovative air cushion packing system that’s highly versatile and user-friendly. It’s ideal for void filling, wrapping, and interleaving — making it perfect for displaying your handbags in the best possible way.

Alongside the Mini Air Machine, I suggest using our filler cushions, available in various sizes to fit everything from small clutch bags to larger suitcases.

Using the Mini Air and these cushions will help keep your handbags looking full and visually appealing while protecting their shape and material. You can also find detailed guides and instructional videos on our website to help you get started quickly.

I hope this helps. If you need further assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out!

Best wishes,

The Packaging Doctor
