Our compliance team has expressed great joy in contributing £1,000 to Loros Hospice, a cherished local charity offering care to terminally ill patients and their families in Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland over the past three decades. Their primary goal remains focused on improving the quality of life for adult patients suffering from cancer, progressive neurological conditions, and end-stage organ failure when curative treatments are no longer viable.
This generous donation arrives during a critical period as the hospice braces itself for an influx of COVID-19 patients. In collaboration with hospitals nationwide, the hospice aims to alleviate pressure on these institutions while ensuring beds remain available whenever possible. Additionally, clinical staff have been dispatched both to major hospitals and within the community. However, due to canceled or scaled-down fundraising activities caused by the pandemic, the hospice anticipates a financial gap ranging between £1.2 and £1.4 million.
The environment at the hospice has undergone noticeable changes since the pandemic began. Normally, the facility hums with energy from volunteers and the presence of family and friends visiting loved ones, a scene that they hope will return to its vibrant state soon.
The donation will contribute to a general fund, allowing the hospice to allocate resources where they're most urgently needed. Current initiatives include purchasing personal protective equipment (PPE), acquiring a new mattress for the ward, and refurbishing social spaces like the kitchen, dining area, and even constructing a poly-tunnel. These efforts aim to support patient comfort and staff efficiency amidst challenging circumstances.
