With a growing focus on children's development and well-being, more parents are investing significant time and effort into decorating their kids' rooms. As a result, the children's furniture market has experienced rapid growth, offering products that cater to both the developmental needs and entertainment preferences of young children. One such brand is Xiangshengyuan Children’s Furniture, available at xsy.cnjiaju.com.

Despite the booming market, concerns remain about the quality of children’s furniture. A recent survey found that up to 30% of products in this category fail to meet safety standards, raising serious concerns about the hidden dangers associated with substandard items. With over 300 million children under the age of 16 in China—roughly a quarter of the population—this market represents a huge opportunity. In urban areas, 74% of children have their own rooms, making it a goldmine for furniture manufacturers.
The high cost of children’s furniture often puzzles consumers. For example, a mother in Shanghai recently spent more than the price of her master bedroom on just a bed, desk, and wardrobe for her daughter. Why is this so expensive? Is the craftsmanship truly better, or is it just marketing?

To address these issues, the "General Technical Conditions for Children's Furniture" national standard was implemented in 2012. This standard sets strict requirements, including limits on formaldehyde emissions and heavy metals, as well as specifications for paint quality and surface finish. According to the standard, any defects on the surface should not exceed four. However, many small brands lack awareness of these regulations, leading to inconsistencies in product quality.
Experts warn that consumers must be vigilant when choosing children’s furniture. The new standard now includes testing for four additional harmful metals—antimony, bismuth, selenium, and arsenic—making it the most stringent in history. Despite this, the quality inspection results from the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) show that 32.1% of children’s furniture samples failed to meet the required standards.
In Xi’an, reporters observed that children’s furniture is generally more expensive than adult furniture. A solid wood children’s bed can cost over 8,970 yuan, while a similar-sized adult bed may cost less than 2,000 yuan. Salespeople explained that the higher price is due to stricter design and material requirements, such as lower formaldehyde emissions. A report from one store showed that its furniture emitted only 0.5 mg/L of formaldehyde, well below the 1.5 mg/L limit set for children’s products.
While bright colors and playful designs attract children, they often contain higher levels of lead and other harmful substances. Experts advise parents to avoid overly colorful or flashy furniture and instead opt for natural materials like solid wood.
The high rate of non-compliant products highlights the need for stronger consumer awareness and stricter enforcement of quality standards. Even well-known brands have been found on the list of unqualified items, indicating that the industry still faces challenges in ensuring child safety.
As the demand for children’s furniture continues to grow, it is crucial for parents to make informed choices and for manufacturers to prioritize quality and safety above all else.
