Good prospects for automotive plastic waste market

According to statistics from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, after the hot market in 2002, the domestic auto industry achieved a “double breakthrough” in output and growth in the first quarter of 2003. Its output exceeded 1 million units, and its growth rate exceeded 50%. The soaring production of automobiles and the demand for lighter vehicles have led to an increase in the demand for automotive plastics. At the same time, the annual disposal of discarded plastics from discarded automobiles requires tens of thousands of tons of plastic. The issue of environmental protection of plastics for automobiles has become an important issue before us.
Pay attention to the recycling of waste plastics for vehicles

According to statistics from the China Plastics Industry Association, at present, the amount of automotive plastics in China is increasing year by year. The amount of plastics used in economical cars is 50-60 kilograms per vehicle, and 60 to 80 kilograms of mid-to-high-class cars are available, and some even reach 100 kilograms; light and medium-sized. The amount of plastic used for trucks is about 50 kg. The average amount of plastic used in each car accounted for 5% to 10% of the car's weight, reaching the level of foreign countries in the early and mid-1980s.

Wang Jiequan, an engineer from the China Plastics Industry Association, said that the amount of plastic products used in the automotive industry directly reflects the development level of a country's auto industry. For example, the new car developed and sold by Japan Daihatsu Industrial Co., Ltd., in addition to chairs, interior parts such as roofs, interior materials, instrument panels, etc. are all made of plastic. At present, the tendency of auto plasticization has evolved from ordinary decorative parts to structural and functional parts. Therefore, the use of plastic raw materials has expanded from common plastics (used mostly for automotive interior parts) to composite materials with higher strength and better impact. Or plastic alloys.

In modern automobiles, we can see the shadow of plastic products everywhere, whether it is exterior decoration parts, interior decoration parts, or functional and structural parts. By 2010, the total amount of automotive plastics in China will reach about 780,000 tons. Therefore, our task will be more and more arduous for the recovery, regeneration, and utilization of waste plastic parts.

Establish a system to reduce the discharge of pollutants and green purchasing

At present, the actual utilization rate of plastic products has reached 85%, and it is expected to reach 95% in 2015. However, the recycling and recycling of automotive plastics are still being researched and perfected even in countries with advanced recycling technologies. According to Wang’s engineers, foreign countries are mainly using the method of burning heat energy to dispose of used plastic parts, and through certain cleaning devices, the exhaust gas and waste residues that cannot be used are cleaned. However, in recent years, Japan and European countries have separately put forward requirements for the use of waste plastics for automobiles, and have specified specific years. Due to the high level of attention of the governments of these countries, the use of waste plastics in automobiles has been promoted.

Ford Motor Company of the United States began recycling automotive plastics this summer and will apply it to the road surface. For non-metallic automotive scrap, which accounts for about 20% of the total automotive materials, the company's traditional practice is landfill disposal. However, these wastes will be recycled in the next five years, of which plastics account for 10%. These plastics will be mixed with fine stone as a pavement material.

Annual recycling value of renewable resources 10 billion

Due to the recycling, regeneration and utilization of waste plastics, it has become a hot spot in foreign countries and is gradually becoming a new industry. Therefore, relevant experts believe that with the rapid development of China’s automobile industry, domestic companies will also respond to waste vehicles and other plastic materials. The resulting environmental pollution comes with corresponding countermeasures.

According to the “Tenth Five-Year Development Plan for the Recycling of Renewable Resources”, it will take five years to increase the total annual recovery value of renewable resources from 45 billion yuan in 2000 to more than 55 billion yuan in 2005.

The plan proposes that by 2005, the annual recoveries of the main types of renewable resources for recycling will be 36 million to 37 million tons of scrap steel, 2 million tons of non-ferrous metals, 5 million to 6 million tons of waste plastics, and 17 million tons of waste paper. Recycling and dismantling of 800,000 scrapped automobiles, 7.9 million tires being refurbished, and recycling of waste household appliances and waste computers reaching more than 80% of the total amount of discarded automobiles.

Accelerate the legal plan for the recycling of renewable resources

According to relevant sources, in the next few years, the country will build a batch of renewable resources processing bases with a certain scale and level to research and develop a batch of urgently needed non-hazardous waste disposal technologies and renewable resource processing and utilization technologies, such as waste nickel and nickel cadmium. Non-hazardous treatment technologies for batteries (secondary batteries), waste lubricating oil, waste paint, and electronic waste, remanufacturing of waste household appliances, computers, and end-of-life automobiles, and comprehensive utilization of resources; building several different levels and different Types and different scales of renewable resources return to the collection and distribution base and the standardized renewable resources trading market; they focus on supporting a number of demonstration projects, mainly including integrated demonstration projects for the recycling and dismantling of end-of-life automobiles with steel companies as their leader, waste household appliances, and computers. Manufacturing, processing and demonstration projects, etc.; strategic adjustment of waste material recycling enterprises, establishment of enterprise groups, implementation of joint-stock reforms, establishment of Sino-foreign joint ventures and cooperative enterprises, and the cultivation of a group of competitive large-scale waste materials recycling enterprise groups.

Li Guojun, vice chairman of the China Plastics Industry Association, stressed that the recycling, recycling and utilization of used plastics should be started from the source. Selecting materials for auto parts, especially the selection of new products, can promote the recycling and recycling of plastics.
