Gypsum microfibers can replace plant fibers for papermaking

The good news came from the Gypsum Research Center of Ningxia Building Material Research Institute. After eight experiments, the eight staff members developed gypsum microfibres and production technologies that can be used as various composite reinforcement materials in only two years. The research of gypsum microfibers used in papermaking has been completed in the laboratory and passed the acceptance of experts. It is understood that this is the first time that the technology has been used for papermaking nationwide.
Gypsum microfibers can be widely used in the production of rubber, paper, plastics, coatings, etc., and can be used as an alternative to asbestos. The product can be used as a high-quality raw material for papermaking to improve the tensile strength and burst strength of paper, and can replace some of the plant fibers (such as wood pulp and pulp). If industrial development is achieved, it will not only reduce papermaking costs, but also increase economic efficiency. It can also replace wood pulp, protect forests, and become a green way for the paper industry to achieve sustainable development. There are 1.3 billion tons of gypsum resources in our district, making it the second largest non-metallic resource in Ningxia, second only to coal. Therefore, the preliminary experiment of this project was successful and found a new direction for the development of the rich gypsum resources in our district.
According to the person in charge of the project, the technology is high in technology and there are many factors affecting production. The innovation in terms of the choice of crystallizing agent and waterproof and water-resistance is a new bright spot for this technological breakthrough.
