Supporting Zoe’s Place

Supporting Zoe’s Place

If you're not familiar with Zoe’s Place, let me take a moment to introduce you to this incredible charity and the vital work they do. Zoe’s Place is the UK's only baby-specific hospice, offering palliative and end-of-life care for children aged 0 to 5 years old, as well as ongoing support for their families. It's truly inspiring to see how much they do with such limited resources.

The charity operates three sites across the UK, one of which is located in Coventry — home to Kite Packaging’s online operations and major accounts team in the Midlands. Unfortunately, these hospices receive very little government funding. In Coventry, this lack of support means the hospice can’t stay open all the time. Each hour of care costs around £25, making it challenging to maintain a 24/7 service. That’s why Kite decided to step in and help raise funds for this important cause.

It all started when a group of brave Kite employees from our Midlands branch took on the Wolf Run — a tough 10K obstacle course that includes woods, lakes, fields, and more. The event took place last week on 6th September 2014. Our 'Wolf Pack' set a goal of raising £250 and ended up hitting £300 for the Zoe’s Place 'Open Doors Appeal', which translates to 12 hours of care at the hospice.

It was great to see the whole team get involved and support such a meaningful cause. But it also made us think — how else could we help? As an employee-owned company, we always want to support our colleagues in their fundraising efforts. We wanted to do more than just encourage them; we wanted to join in and contribute to the cause ourselves.

That’s why, on 22nd August, we hosted a Kite Barbecue. All the food was donated by the company, and employees were invited to come out, enjoy a burger, and make a donation to the cause. The food was sourced from Aubrey Allen, a local and award-winning supplier based in Leamington, and cooked by our Managing Partner, Gavin Ashe, who even put on an apron for the day!

These events are a great way to bring our team together, especially as we grow and it becomes harder to meet up socially. At Kite, we believe we’re a family, working together to achieve success. And we did just that — raising an extra £177 for Zoe’s Place, bringing the total to a proud £477.00!

With the money now collected, it was time for the Wolf Pack to put their training into action. The big day finally arrived, and here’s a look at them before the event:

As you can see, it was a muddy, challenging experience! They tackled huge obstacles, swam through lakes, and navigated through dense woodland in Warwickshire. Well done to the entire team for their effort and dedication — they’ve made a real difference for Zoe’s Place.
