As early as in ancient times, humans began to explore food packaging. In ancient times, in order to keep foods for a long time or to be easily carried, ancient peoples put the foods in blues made of leaves or vines, or put them in bamboo tubes.

Around 1000 BC, the Greeks used wooden barrels as containers for food packaging and exported them to other regions. At that time, consumers placed foods in packages made of sheepskin or pigskin for carrying around.

As early as 3,000 years ago in ancient China, people began to use ceramics as canisters to seal foods. This is described in detail in such books as "Qi Min Yao Shu" and "Great Trades Picked Records".

The real sense of food packaging began with the canned food storage, which originated in the early 19th century. In 1804, Apelén France successfully used glass bottles to preserve food. Since then, glass bottles using cork stoppers have appeared as food packaging.

In 1810, Durand in the UK successfully used tinplates to make food packaging, the so-called tin cans. After that, more and more metal materials are used in the manufacture of food packaging.

At the beginning of the 20th century, a variety of plastics and paper composites were put into can-making to enable food packaging containers to expand from rigid cans to soft cans. The varieties of packaging containers are more novel, diverse, and practical.

Around 1960, Taiwan introduced plastic films for food packaging. From the early single-layer flavour bags to today's high-performance flexible packaging materials combining plastic films, foils, and papers, it has become the mainstream of food packaging.
