Quick-frozen vegetables, on the other hand, are typically packaged in freeze-resistant materials like nylon films. After cleaning, these vegetables are quickly frozen in controlled cold storage. The rapid freezing process allows small ice crystals to form within the cells without damaging the cell walls. This helps retain the vegetable's original color, flavor, and nutrients even after thawing.

According to Professor Xin Xinying from Shandong University’s Institute of Nutrition and Food Hygiene, if you freeze homemade dumplings or fresh meat at home, you might not notice visible ice immediately. However, over time, frost can form on the surface, indicating prolonged storage. Similarly, supermarket-bought frozen foods with excessive ice chips may have been refrozen, which can negatively impact quality.

"Once the packaging is opened and then refrozen, the cellular structure changes, leading to increased water content and potential degradation of the food’s texture and taste," Xin explained. Additionally, quick-freezing does not eliminate bacteria, only halts their growth. Repeated freezing and thawing can allow bacteria to multiply, posing health risks.

Therefore, when choosing frozen foods, it's important to check the packaging for any tears or damage. Avoid products with visible ice buildup inside the bag, as this often indicates poor freezing practices. It’s also advisable to purchase pre-packaged items to reduce contamination risks. When shopping, choose frozen foods last and store them in the freezer immediately to maintain freshness and prevent bacterial growth.

These microorganisms are frequently found in products like drinking water, meat, eggs, frozen desserts, cakes, seafood, and beverages. The primary cause is inadequate adherence to food safety regulations and improper use of additives during production. Poor quality control and arbitrary addition of substances contribute to these issues.

To ensure safety, manufacturers must follow strict hygiene protocols and comply with food safety standards. Consumers should also remain vigilant and choose reputable brands with transparent packaging and clear labeling.
