Europe increases waste paper recycling efforts

Recently, the recycling of waste paper in Europe has received More attention. Despite the ups and downs of the waste paper market, European waste paper recyclers will still increase waste paper recycling.

The European Paper Industry Alliance (CEPI) and the European Recycling Paper Association (ERPA) have done a lot of work to raise the level of waste paper recycling in Europe. As early as November 2000, CEPI and ERPA issued a declaration on the recycling of waste paper in Europe. The declaration plans to increase the level of waste paper recycling in Europe to 56% by 2005. In order to strengthen its efforts, CEPI and ERPA also set up a special European Recycling Committee (ERPC) to implement the contents of the declaration. ERPC not only represents CEPI and ERPA, but also represents other companies and institutions within the European papermaking industry, such as EUGROPA, FEAD, IN-TERGRAF and others. According to the 2000 annual report issued by the ERPC in November 2001, in the late 1990s, the level of waste paper recycling in Europe was somewhat stagnant.

The main articles of the declaration include:
· Reduce pollution caused by the use of paper and cardboard in daily life and production.
Improve the use of raw materials and auxiliary materials.
· Good communication with waste paper recycling companies to optimize the recycling system.
• To enhance the technical and operational nature of waste paper recycling and seek environmentally friendly solutions, research and development in this area should be promoted and supported.
· Through advertising and education to consumers, they understand the important role of waste paper recycling in the recycling process of paper.
· Take relevant measures to ensure that by 2005 European paper and board recycling rate reached 56%.

Fortunately for these European institutions, many new paper mills have already used waste paper on the agenda. For example, Stora, Enso's Langerbrugge in Belgium and Papierfabrik Palm's corrugated paper mill in Germany are all based on waste paper.

In order to increase the recycling rate of waste paper, CEPI and ERPA are working as the following to strengthen the link between the waste paper suppliers and consumers. First, the two agencies ensure that waste paper recovered by waste paper recyclers can receive orders from paper mills. Second, they ensure that the paper mills can obtain sufficient and high quality waste paper supplies. At present, European waste paper is mainly consumed in the European market, but CEPI has realized the importance of overseas markets. In the waste paper recycling process, the recovery and classification of household waste paper is very difficult because it requires additional costs. With the improvement of the world economy, the Far East region, especially China, has a great potential for improvement in the consumption of paper products. China will become the main target of European waste paper exports.

Many countries in Europe have already taken corresponding measures to strengthen the management of waste paper recycling, thereby reducing the waste of waste paper. This proves that CEPI and ERPA's efforts to increase waste paper recycling have not been in vain, but they still have a lot of work to do in order to get wide support from the community.
