Altun Mountain, Mongolia means "mountain with cypress trees." Located in the northwest of China, it is located between the Tarim Basin and the Qaidam Basin and is in the southwest-northeast direction. It is connected to Kunlun Mountain in the west and extends to Jinshankou and Qilian Mountain in the east. It is 700 kilometers in length and 200 kilometers wide. It consists of six parallel mountains and spans Qinghai Province, Gansu Province, and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The highest peak in the western section is the Suramutag Peak, 6295 m above sea level, located in the southern part of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, on the main ridge line of the Sula Mttag Mountains: the main ridge of the Yusuppur Alltagtag Mountains in the middle section. There is an unnamed virgin peak standing on the line, 6065 meters above sea level. The highest peak in the eastern section is also known as the Altun Mountain. It is 5,798 meters above sea level and is located at 93.7 degrees east longitude and 39.3 degrees north latitude. It stands in the territory of the Subei Mongolian Autonomous County in Gansu Province.

Climbing History On August 19, 1989, the four Chinese and Japanese friendly climbers from Lanzhou City and Akita City successfully climbed the summit of the Altun Mountains.
The comprehensive training school first boarded this peak in November 2001.
