Talk about Photoshop's many color modes (2)

4. HSB mode

After introducing the three main color modes, now introduce another color mode-HSB color mode, it will appear in the color drawing window.

In the HSB mode, H represents hue, S represents saturation, and B represents brightness.

Hue: It is a pure color, that is, a single color that makes up the visible spectrum. Red is at 0 degrees, green is at 120 degrees, and blue is at 240 degrees. It is basically a pie chart with full chroma in RGB mode.

Saturation: indicates the purity of the color, when it is 0, it is the color. White, black and other gray colors are not saturated. At maximum saturation, each hue has the purest shade.

Brightness: is the bright reading of colors. When it is 0, it is black. Maximum brightness is the most vivid state.

5. Indexed mode

Indexed mode is the indexed color mode, also called mapped color. In this mode, only one 8-bit color depth file can be stored, that is, up to 256 colors, and the colors are pre-defined. All colors of an image are defined in its image file, that is, all colors are mapped to a color disk, which is called a color comparison table. Therefore, when the image file is opened, the color comparison table is also read into Photoshop, and Photoshop finds the final color value from the color comparison table.

6.GrauScale mode

After introducing the colorful world, we now enter the gray world. In fact, gray is also a kind of color, also has a gorgeous side.

Grayscale files are 8-bit images that can compose up to 256 levels of grayscale, and brightness is the only element that controls grayscale. The brightness is about high, the lighter the gray, the closer to white; the lower the brightness, the darker the gray, the closer to black. Therefore, black and white are included in grayscale, which is a subset of grayscale mode.

Only grayscale exists in the grayscale mode. When a color file is converted to a grayscale file, all color information will be removed from the file. Although Photoshop allows a grayscale file to be converted to a color mode file, it is impossible to restore the original color without change.

In grayscale files, the color saturation of the image is 0, and brightness is the only option that can affect the grayscale image. Brightness is a measure of light intensity, with 0% representing black and 100% representing white. The K value in the Color palette is used to measure the amount of black ink.

7. Bitmap mode

The black and white bitmap mode is an image composed of only black and white pixels. Some people think that black is a subset of the grayscale color mode, so this mode is not very useful. In fact, this is a misunderstanding. It is precisely because of the Bitmap mode that we can better control the printout of grayscale images. In fact, output devices such as laser printers rely on small dots to render grayscale images, so using Bitmap mode can better set the size and shape of the dots and the angle of each other.

It should be noted that only grayscale images or multi-channel images can be converted to Bitmap mode, a dialog box will appear when converting, and you can set the output resolution and conversion method of the file here. The specific setting method is as follows:

Output: refers to the resolution of black and white images.

Method: Provide the following 5 settings.

50% Threshold (Critical value): Select this item, gray pixels greater than 50% will become black, and gray images less than or equal to 50% will become white.

Pattern Dither: Use some random black and white pixels to dither the image. The image generated using this method is very difficult to see, and there is almost no gap between pixels.

Diffusion Dither: Use this item to generate a metallic effect. It will use a divergence process to change a pixel to monochrome, and the result is a grainy effect.

Halftone Screen: This conversion makes the image look like a grayscale image printed on a halftone screen.

Custom Pattern (custom pattern): This conversion method allows a custom pattern (the pattern defined with the Custom Pattern command in the Edit menu) to be added to a bitmap image.

Please note that after the image is converted to Bitmap mode, no other editing can be performed, and even the image in grayscale mode cannot be restored.

8. Duotone two-color pattern

Duotone mode uses a gray-scale ink or color ink to render a gray-scale image. It is a two-color overprint or same-color overprint mode. In this mode, you can add up to 4 colors to the grayscale image, so you can print out a much better-looking image than the simple grayscale mode.
