Inventory: 10 kinds of world edible packaging materials

With the innovation of packaging technology, edible packaging materials have been put on the market one after another, and are well received by the industry. This article counts 10 edible materials that already exist in the world:

1. Soy protein edible packaging film: This packaging film was successfully developed by a research team headed by Frederick F. Shi of the United States. It has many advantages, such as not only retaining moisture but also preventing oxygen from entering, but also ensuring the original taste of fatty foods. After eating, the nutritional value is high, and at the same time, it is easy to handle and fully meets the environmental protection requirements. After trial, the effect is very good.

2. Chitosan edible packaging film: This packaging film was successfully trial-produced by the American Agricultural Research Institute and is mainly used for the packaging of fruit and vegetable foods. It uses shellfish extract chitosan as the main raw material. The combination of chitosan and lauric acid produces a uniform edible film with a thickness of only 0.2-0.3 mm. Packing peeled fruits or fruit slices (blocks) with this packaging film has a good preservation effect.

3. Protein, fatty acid, starch composite edible packaging film: This packaging film was developed by the University of Wisconsin in the United States. Its main feature is that it can combine different ratios of protein, fatty acid and starch according to different needs to produce edible films with different physical properties. The larger the fatty acid molecule of the packaging film, the better the performance of retarding the moisture loss.

4. Water-resistant protein film: This packaging film was successfully developed by Japan Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Comprehensive Research Institute. It is suitable for covering puffed starch food. The film is a new type of packaging material that can replace styrofoam, and its strength is comparable to the synthetic film used in ordinary food packaging. Because its main component is corn, it has biodegradability and will not pollute the environment.

5. Edible packaging paper with Okara as raw material: This edible packaging paper was recently launched by a Japanese company. It is most suitable for the packaging of fast food noodle seasoning. Its characteristic is that it dissolves with hot water in a bubble, without tearing the packaging, which is not only convenient, but also has certain nutritional value.

6. Edible packaging container: This container is developed and produced by the Australian Queensland Potato Chip Container Company. It is mainly used for the packaging of potato chips. In the trial production process, it imitated the processing technology of potato chips, adding smoked flavor, sauce flavor, chicken flavor, and sour, salty, spicy and other flavors to meet different consumers' tastes. The container was used in 45,000 potato chip sales outlets in Australia soon after its introduction, and it also attracted the attention of countries all over the world. Now its production equipment has entered the US market.

7. Corn protein packaging film (paper, coating): This packaging film was developed by China. It is mainly used for packaging and coating of fast food boxes and other oily foods. The film is a packaging material synthesized from paper and corn protein. It cannot be permeated by grease. Putting it into an oil pan and boiling will not change its properties.

8. Insect film or protein-coated packaging paper (container): This packaging was also developed by China. It is non-toxic and easy to handle and can withstand the erosion of a certain temperature and moisture. The packaging paper or container is a film prepared by a special process after dissolving shellac or protein, or a packaging paper or packaging container made by coating a cardboard or paper container through a coating process.

9. Corn starch sodium alginate or chitosan composite packaging film (paper): These two packaging films (paper) were developed by China. They can be used for preserved fruits, pastries, instant noodle soup and other convenience food Inner packaging. Its main features are high tensile strength and elongation, and good water resistance. Soaking these two kinds of packaging films (paper) in boiling water for more than 10 minutes, their performance has not changed much. These two kinds of packaging films (paper) are made of corn starch, added with sodium alginate or chitosan, and then blended with a certain amount of plasticizer, tackifier and preservative, and are processed by a special process.

10. Bio-coated packaging paper: This kind of packaging paper was also developed by China. The packaging container made of such coated packaging paper can be used for fast food or food packaging that is required to withstand a certain temperature and moisture. It is a water-resistant and oil-resistant coating packaging paper obtained by coating (or spraying) the prepared rubber compound with a special amount of starch glue and bone glue, with a certain amount of additives.
